Project setup creating a Youtube channel
Wonder Workshops are from Matt in the Hat - at the time these video courses were created also known as Cap'n Matt (as shown in the video).
Here's a note about my Wonder Workshops:
Although the PocketClub membership itself is no longer available, I will always be including these marketing ideas in my Substack writings.
The videos here are an example of useful information that can still be of value to you. The interwebs are an endless wonderland of new ideas and fresh opportunities - keep an eye out for my Wonder Workshops and simpler, more effective ways to set yourself set up as a successful brand of your own.
The Wonder Workshops will demonstrate how to do other things besides internet social media marketing - make sure to check them out. My Treasure Map will lead you there.
The Vagabond Lifestyle
I did most of my work while living aboard a sailboat called the Songrider. Living on social security fixed income, enjoying the liveaboard lifestyle, I began rebuilding old broken boats in trade for a simple place to live. Learning how to work online became my latest stab at re-inventing myself - and trying to supplement my meager income.
I was busy creating video training courses, the type of short, compact video courses that introduce an internet audience to the business model of affiliate product marketing.
Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing sounds easy: Sign up as an affiliate and offer an endless stream of attractive products, software or information courses, projects that other smart people have already created, and when someone purchases that product using your affiliate link (provided by the product creator) you will make commissions - anywhere from 10% to as much as a 50% commission on every sale. A 50% commission is usually for a meagerly priced simple product offer (say $4.97) and you are simply adding subscribers to the list owned by the product vendor - building their list for them.
The smart affiliate will figure out how to build their own list - and create their own product offers.
I purchased and learned a lot from other video courses demonstrating how to create and set up an affiliate marketing product. I wandered aimlessly through the process, learning how to set it all up and offer the courses online.
I learned about landing pages, affiliate commissions, setting up Wordpress membership sites, using an autoresponder to gather email addresses and creating an email marketing series - all of which required me to travel the seemingly endless internet learning curve. Some bad travel hat idea, huh?
This doesn't even include the marketing. How will you find an audience for your product offers?
Creating every new product will be about 20% of your effort - getting it in front of thousands of eyeballs is an endless task. You may succeed depending on your newly learned skills - or end up suffering from that dreaded disease called SOS (Shiny Object Syndrome) justifying your spending believing it's all going to result in creating a wildly spectacular income for yourself. And in no time at all you are drowning in things to do.
Others have pursued the affiliate marketing model and found great success while most others simply become the 99 percent. When you hear the statistic that only 1 in 100 people actually succeed I can verify that it is true and I can tell you why.
Fresh News from the Asylum
Everything you read on a sales page is an abbreviation; the actual effort necessary to achieve the results will only be appreciated by personally experiencing your own pain - or listening to someone who has spent a bit of time in that asylum.
I would like to relieve you of that pain.
Everything on the web is in a constant state of change. Social media platforms are trying to improve, software developers are adding new tricks - nothing ever seems to stay the same way it was after I made a video demonstration.
Striving for built-in obsolescence?
Every time I made a new video showing how to use a software or a website or social media my training course demonstrating exactly what to do would become obsolete. My product was always being compromised - my video instruction would become out of date information.
After regularly making half-hearted attempts to mend, remake and resend the content I wasn't sure the extra effort was going to be worthwhile (i.e. profitable).
And it was discouraging for another reason.
Most affiliate product creators couldn't care less about the consequences of taking people's money and selling a product with built-in obsolescence. People with the SOS disease (Shiny Object Syndrome) and some discretionary income would just keep buying from the next well-presented sales page. It's just part of the business apparently. How rude, eh?
I could see how it was done and I knew I could do this. I just didn't want to have to admit to anyone some day that I found my success following that greedy business model. If I'm going to start a business on the internet it will have to be something that can benefit and be of interest to my followers - and satisfying to myself as well.
Now the Crux of the Biscuit
The length of time that has passed since these projects were first created certainly qualifies them to be a delayed launch! The videos are not lengthy and I hope you find some value from them.
None of the projects are available any longer for affiliates to offer - some of it will seem outdated, but this is all useful information that will help in understanding the process. You may even use some of it.
You will notice the reference to Cap'n Matt, the now-defunct PocketClub Pro Membership, the Truthbomb project, something called the 5 Finger Formula, creating a Wordpress website, and demonstrating how to manage it all just working from your phone - hence the PocketClub idea.
