Roll Out The Cheer
I am a misfit; I am a rogue
I know a little bit, but I've got soul
I've been hangin- around so long
I just can't let it go.
I keep my pants up; I'm not in vogue
I know what I like, I know it's old
I've been chasin' this long time rabbit
down into its hole
Do you believe it's December?
Do you believe it's already here?
Do you believe it's been one more whole year?
Roll out the cheer
Roll out the cheer
Crux of the biscuit; end of the bone
I think I'll let it all go and go home
I'm not hangin' around this time
to see what can be known.
Do you believe it's December?
Do you believe it's already here?
Do you believe it's been one more whole year?
Roll out the cheer
Roll out the cheer
Do you believe it's December? Do you believe it's been one more whole year?
It's that time of the year again - time to roll out the cheer. Bells will be ringing and kids will be singing while people come down with a cold. Behind a mask people may be smiling - but I can never be sure. Apprehensively I nod.
Roll Out The Cheer is a song that I previously included in a CD release from several years ago. My how time rolls along. As a vagabond digital nomad I self-identify with the opening line, "I am a misfit; I am a rogue..."
In the lyrics you might detect some sarcasm, like in the line, "I keep my pants up; I'm not in vogue...", referring to the way some young men want to continue to wear their pants pulled half way down to rudely reveal as much of their underwear as they can get away with.
And sometimes it shows in their style of conversation and choice of words. In a manner of speaking, and by most people's standard of decent behavior, it's bad manners. It may not be their intent - it could be a rebellious way of demanding the freedom to dress and act the way they want. I'm sure they know it's rude, but what kind of reaction do they really expect - respect?
Well I'm older now. It's just a passing fad,
"Crux of the biscuit; end of the bone
I think I'll let it all go and go home"
As I write this I am home for the holidays - Michigan weather and some snow on the way - and the palm trees and beaches of Florida still beckoning. Spending some time with family until my next adventure - get a notification for more details about that.
